This is a question I’ve been asked many times. It seems like every time there is an article about some new startup, someone asks me what their “secret sauce” was or how they were able to succeed in such a competitive environment. The truth of the matter is that it really doesn’t take much more than hard work, persistence, and good timing. However, if you are going into business for yourself, then you need to be prepared with certain skillsets and personality traits that will help you get through all those tough days when things don’t go as planned. In my experience, entrepreneurs who fail often do so because they lack one or more of these key characteristics. So let’s look at each of these areas individually and see which ones apply to your situation.

1. Hard Work – You can never underestimate the importance of working hard. If you want something bad enough, you should put everything else aside and just focus on getting it done. That said, most people aren’t willing to make sacrifices necessary to achieve success. They spend too much time doing other activities instead of focusing on building up their businesses. Entrepreneurship requires long hours and lots of effort. But if you are serious about making money from home, then you must be willing to give up some personal pleasures in order to reach your goals.
