Research at least two criminal or civil cases

Use the web or other resources to research at least two criminal or civil cases in which recovered files played a significant role in how the case was resolved.

This assignment is designed to help students understand and use legal research tools, such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, etc., to find information about specific court decisions that are relevant to their own law school courses. Students will be required to complete this assignment for credit. The purpose of this assignment is not only to teach students how to conduct legal research but also to provide them with an opportunity to practice what they have learned by conducting actual searches on real-life issues.

The Assignment: In order to meet the requirements of this assignment, you must first identify two criminal or civil cases where your client’s interests were affected by the recovery of electronic data from computers or servers. You may choose any type of case involving computer crime, including hacking, identity theft, child pornography, copyright infringement, intellectual property rights violations, fraud, cyberstalking, extortion, terrorism, espionage, insider trading, money laundering, tax evasion, white collar crimes, or any other issue related to computer technology. For each case, you should include all facts known to you regarding the case, including the name, location, date, time, defendant/defendants’ names, charges filed against defendants, verdict rendered, and outcome of the case. If possible, please cite the source material used to support these facts. Please note that it is acceptable to use publicly available sources like Wikipedia if there is no readily accessible published version of the article.
